SUBST

 

Substitute all occurrences of <search_string> with {replace_string} within the values of feature class items in a coverage.

SUBST <cover> <search_string> {replace_string} {feature_class} {item.item}

 

ARGUMENTS

 

<cover> - the coverage to operate on.

 

<search_string> - the string to be replaced.

 

{replace_string} - the new string to substitute for each occurrence of the <search_string>.

 

If not specified, all occurrences of the <search_string> will be deleted, i.e. replaced with nothing.

 

{feature_class} - the feature class to operate on.

 

If not specified, then all INFO tables associated with the coverage are operated on.  (The wildcard <cover>.* is used to identify all associated tables.)

 

{item.item} - the item(s) within the feature class to operate on.

 

If not specified, then all items are operated on.

 

 

NOTES

 

SUBST runs from the ARC module of ArcInfo.

 

SUBST was only designed to work with CHARACTER items.

Arc: &run subst usage

Usage: SUBST <cover> <search_string> {replace_string}

{feature_class} {item.item}

 

1)  To replace all occurrences of AVE with Avenue in street names in the AAT:

 

Arc: &run subst road_cover AVE Avenue arc street_name

 

2)  To replace all occurrences of XX with 99 in all items in all feature classes:

 

Arc: &run subst hydro_cover XX 99
