TOOLBOX: DV REGION TOOLS PURPOSE: Provide tools to help with region subclasses. TOOLS: Polygon to Region - Create a Region framework for a polygon feature class. GOVERNMENT SFREEWARE: This toolbox was written by David Hatfield, an enterprise employee within the USDA Forest Service. It is distributed "as is" and is not supported or maintained. INSTALL: Unzip the file into C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ESRI\ArcToolbox\My Toolboxes (or into some other directory of your choice.) This will create a new toolbox (named DV Region Tools) in My Toolboxes. If the toolbox has previously been installed, then overwrite the existing files. RUN FROM ArcCatalog: Once you've unzipped the file, then the new DV Region Tools toolbox will show up in ArcCatalog. On the ArcCatalog tree, click on Toolboxes, My Toolboxes, DV Region Tools. This will display all of the tools. Double click on a tool to open the form to run the tool*. When the form is open, click on [Show Help >>] to display help on the right side of the form (or click on [<< Hide Help] to close the help frame.) When you click on a parameter in the form, the help for this parameter will be displayed in the help frame. If you want to see the entire help file, click on [?Help] above the help frame. * Some of the tools in this toolbox run AMLs. In order for these tools to work, your system needs to be configured to open ArcInfo workstation and run the '&run' command when an AML file is opened. If this hasn't been done already, then double-click on C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\ArcToolbox\Scripts\RegisterAmlAsExecutable.reg and click Yes to add this information to the registry. (For more information see: http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.techArticles.articleShow&d=26898 ) Next check to make sure that your system hasn't been configured already to open AMLs with another program, such as WordPad. To do this open Windows Explorer, click on Tools, Folder Options..., File Types. Scroll down to the AML extension. Click on this record. If the "Details for 'AML' extension" displyed below list something other than "Opens with: ARC/INFO", then click the [Restore] button. It should now read "Opens with: ARC/INFO". RUN FROM ArcToolbox (in ArcMap): You can add the DV Region Tools toolbox to ArcToolbox by opening ArcToolbox, right clicking on the main ArcToolbox folder, selecting Add Toolbox..., and navigating to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\ESRI\ArcToolbox\My Toolboxes and selecting DV Region Tools. Now the tools can be run from ArcMap as well as ArcCatalog. Let me know if you have questions, or suggestions. David Hatfield, Original Developer.
