Projects - Our Work

If you are considering streamlining an aspect of your work function using information technology, please consider tapping into the resources of Digital Visions.

We are experts in applying the information technologies of database applications (data management), geographic information systems and Web presence towards accomplishing Forest Service business in a systematic and effective manner.

Following are highlights of some of the projects we have recently been involved in.

Software Applications (Business Solutions)

Departmental

National

  • Law Enforcement & Investigations: LEIMARS assists LE&I personnel with a holistic approach to managing centralized national data for incident reports, federal violation notices and subsequent case investigations. This application applies high security protocols and is noted as one of the most secure in the agency. The LEIMARS Mobile module supports Officers issuance of incident reports and violations from the field while disconnected from any network. The Forest Service through this project is the first Agency to transmit federal violation data electronically to the US Courts. The LEIMARS Mobile business solution is currently being piloted on rugged laptops for in-vehicle use.

  • Advanced Acquisitions Planning: Oracle Web based acquisitions project and workload management for Region 5, Region 6, Region 10 and Region 1.

  • MAP: My Administrative Processes Data Management Module: Oracle based data management application used by data stewards to manage the data found in MAP. MAP helps employees identify the actions they need to take for processes previously done by on-site Budget and Finance (B&F), Human Resources (HR), and Chief Information Office (CIO) officers. Since most B&F, HR, and CIO processes and actions are now handled centrally, employees need to know what items they are responsible for and how to get them done.

  • Land Adjustment Tracker is an Automated Lands Program (ALP) application that will provide means for tracking the progress of land adjustment cases consisting of donations, purchases, sales or exchanges. Digital Visions is providing development support for this application, taking an existing Microsoft Access application and redeveloping it use Oracle Web technologies and making it available in the USFS Application Hosting Environment (AHE).

Regional

  • Outfitter and Guide Use: Oracle Web based data management for operations of special use guides and their activities on and near national forest lands. This application uses a geospatial component to further identify locations and possible impacts to surrounding resources.

  • The Service Request Database (SRDb) is used by R6-Data Resource Management to track requests for GIS, Database, Web, and Wireless support. This web application is used to manage the customer requests, provide communication to customers, make task assignments, track open requests, and manage the completion of service requests in a timely manner. This application uses a web front end and an Oracle backend. Access to submit service requests is open to all regional employees. Access to manage requests is performed through a login account with several access roles defined that provide the ability to use various functions of the application.

  • The R8 Bird application (Oracle web forms on a secure centralized Oracle database)is used by personnel from each forest in Region 8 (biologists, planners, technicians to support region-wide monitoring of neotropical migrant and resident land birds. The system maintains the data collection standards established in the conservation strategy; standardizing data storage at each Forest allows insight into the temporal and spatial dynamics of local and regional populations of selected species.

Other

  • Collections and Sales Handling point of sale system for the Southern California Recreation Fee Demo project generating over 1 million dollars in sales each year. This system is also in use by the Tonto NF (June 2006) and by October 1, 2007 the Sequoia National forest.

  • Enterprise Program ASC Transactions is a Oracle Web based application where individual Enterprise Units request final transaction processing from the WCF branch of the ASC. This application is a service request system between the Enterprise Program and ASC addressing not only the business need of a service request but also applying full disclosure visibility of how and when the request is processed and full accountability of work performance.

  • Enterprise Program Marketing is a Oracle Web based application where individual Enterprise Units supply data regarding the services they provide to the Forest Service. In turn the Enterprise Program Web site contains a Web tool for assisting the visitor with searching for services and subsequently the Enterprise Units that provide them. This mix of technology demonstrates how data can be effectively managed using Oracle and then extracted for wider utility through the Web.

Analysis / Data Construction

  • Infra Travel Routes is a project Digital Visions has been involved with beginning with its original application development. Digital Visions continues involvement by delivering high level expertise with the dynamic segmentation data model and its use in constructing route layers for roads and trails.

  • Law Enforcement & Investigations: LEIMARS supplies a geospatial module within ArcGIS that extracts point data from the Oracle database and constructs point layers in real time for analysis. The security protocols built into LEIMARS ensure that only the specific data meeting the security level of the user is included and all sensitive data remains secure.

User Support

  • Video Teleconferencing: Digital Visions is under work order with the CIO to provide training and user support for all video teleconference systems (nationally) which constitutes to approximately 400 endpoints and increasing everyday. In addition, we provide coordination and handling of the video teleconference bridge services (any conference involving 5 or more endpoints) which constitutes 3 bridges offering a total of 71 port connections.
