Ron Stewart, Deputy Chief for Programs and Legislation, presented the Demographics and Natural Resources information report at the National Leadership Team meeting on water related issues held in Boise, Idaho on March 25-26, 1999. The report provides an overview of the changing American population and its implications for the management of natural resources.
In August 1998, Programs and Legislation Staff was assigned the responsibility to identify the effects that our nation’s shifts in demographics could have on the management of public lands: particularly the policies, practices and procedures for the delivery of services and goods to the American public.
The assignment includes working with internal and external "think tanks", as recommendations that will better position the Forest Service to meet tomorrow’s challenges and remain a world natural resource leader well into the next century.
