 Inititatives

UC DAVIS INITIATIVE
The UC Davis Initiative is a partnership between the US Forest Service and the University of California at Davis. It is one of several Federal programs which provide career opportunities for minority and physically-challenged students. The Initiative recruits Asian and Pacific Islander American students to help build the professional workforce in natural resource management. Currently, Asian Americans comprise only 1.8% of the Forest Service's professional permanent workforce as compared to 5.4% employed in the professional Civilian Labor Force.

Research, Education and Access Program (REAP)
The Forest Service has signed a Memorandum of Understanding between USDA and Asian Pacific Americans in Higher Education (APAHE) to establish the Research, Employment and Access Program (REAP). The program's objectives are to improve the repreentation of Asian Pacific Americans in USDA and their access to USDA programs and services, and to remove the glass ceiling and other career advancement barriers for APA employees in USDA.
