Water Uses and Water Rights: The National Forests
supply water to many users. The Forests are the headwaters for many municipal
watersheds in the United States. The Forest Service manages 191 million
acres of land, of that 42 million acres are municipal watersheds.
These watersheds supply 173 trillion gallons of water annually. There
are over 3400 municiple watersheds on the National Forests serving over
60 million people.
