Boy Scout Jamboree

July 31, 2010

Deputy Chief of the Forest Service, Joel Holtrop, and National Director of Recreation, Jim Bedwell , and former Chief Max Peterson pose for a photo after visiting with Forest Service Volunteer Fred Flint and Forest Service employee Jamie Schwartz, both greeters to scouts entering the Jamboree National Forest

Today the night time Arena Show is scheduled and the public is invited to attend, and a great show with fireworks is expected. It is anticipated that the Jamboree site of 45,000 Scouts and Scouters will swell to over 100,000 with visitor throughout the day.

Yesterday was a day for VIP visits to the Boy Scout National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia. And the Jamboree National Forest got its share. Deputy Chief of the Forest Service, Joel Holtrop, and National Director of Recreation, Jim Bedwell, posed for photos after visiting with Forest Service Volunteer

Deputy Chief Holtrop and Director Bedwell join Headquarters staff officer Marlene Mazych at a little target practice using firefighting equipment at the Virginia Department of Forestry tent at the Jamboree

Holtrop and Bedwell, along with other special visitors, including retired former Forest Service Chief Max Peterson, toured the Forest and talked with staff at the various stations thanking them for their service and complimenting them on the outstanding display work and the friendly and professional demeanor towards the scouts and public.

Further down the conservation trail Holtrop and Bedwell visited the State of Virginia Department of Forestry tent and tried their hand at using water application equipment.  The trick was to hit a target with as much water as possible.
