Exempt Form |
People
need to fly into Portland Oregon International Airport. Free shuttle
service to the hotel is available from the Airport.
PSU
is negotiating hotel lodging at this time. Information will be
emailed to participants and posted here as soon as it is confirmed.
Be
sure to take the tax exempt form with you (give it to the clerk
when you check in) - so you don't have to pay tax. Portland is
one of the few cities that doesn't make Federal employees pay
tax. Take advantage of it! Note the "button" at the
top of this page for a copy of the tax exempt form. Of course,
you are not forced to stay at the negotiated hotel (as lodging
isn't included in the tuition); you can arrange your own lodging
options.
Anyone with special needs relating to mobility should contact Christine Hanolsy, Voicemail: 503-725-5114. Classroom information & campus maps will go out a couple of weeks before the workshop with an initial reading assignment.
The
Doubletree Downtown has a FREE shuttle service that runs twice
per hour from the Portland airport. For departures, the Portland
airport recommends that travelers arrive 1 hour before scheduled
departure times. Allowing an hour travel time between downtown
and the airport should give plenty of time, but obviously this
will depend on the time of day. Taxi rates run around $30 from
the airport to downtown. Parking is free at the Doubletree Downtown
for guests. This is rare in downtown Portland!

Directions to the hotel are available on the hotel website. Portland is extremely easy to navigate via public transportation and on foot, so you may find that you won't need a car at all during the week. It takes about a half-hour to get to the hotel by car, and about an hour by public transportation. Parking is available at the hotel for a fee.
REGISTRATION/PAYMENT
Please fill out the workshop payment information form. Please return the form to Christine via e-mail (Christine Hanolsy) or fax (503-725-5111) by April 23, 2010. (Our fax machine is in a secure location.) A receipt will be sent to the address you give us on the form as soon as your payment is processed.

AGENDA
We will begin our work at 8:00 am on Monday, May 3 (continental breakfast in the conference room at 7:30), and will continue to meet at the same time each morning. There will be several evening work sessions. We will close on Friday with a luncheon and the awarding of certificates. Program activities will be concluded by 1:30 pm on Friday.
MEALS
An informal dinner gathering and the closing luncheon are included in the cost of the workshop; all other meals will be on your own. We will provide a list of eateries within walking distance of the hotel upon your arrival.
VISITING PORTLAND, OREGON
Spring in Portland is a particularly volatile time of year in terms of weather. Please be prepared for rain! Temperatures are likely to be in the 40s and 50s at night and can get up to 70 degrees F or so in the daytime, if the sun is shining.
The hotel is located on the Portland State University campus, which is in downtown Portland and within walking distance to shops, restaurants, the Portland Art Museum, the Oregon Historical Society, Waterfront Park along the Willamette River, and a variety of other attractions. Public transportation (bus, light rail, and streetcar) is easy to use and quite inexpensive - in fact, it's free in the downtown area.
