Continuing Education for Natural Resource Professionals

Policy and Legal Aspects of Endangered Species Management (PLA)

group on boatIntroductory session: Objective is to increase participants' understanding of policy and legal aspects of managing threatened, endangered and sensitive species. Will focus on the law, policies and administrative practices applicable from the perspective of field biologists and other specialists. Interactive presentations, discussions, activities, and a field visit allow participants to learn from each other as well as leading experts. The field visit and other case examples will be used to explore the practical application of theories, hypotheses and notions raised in the classroom. Various landscape situations will be examined (e.g., forested, range, wetland, aquatic).

Advanced session: More in-depth, and specific to the individual participant's home unit situation, than the "Introductory" workshop with hands on application to home unit projects. Bring home unit project to work on. Significant pre-workshop communication occurs between the participants and vendor regarding home unit situations in developing the workshop agenda. Lewis & Clark College staff will work in tandem with OGC and other experienced agency professionals, highlighting specific 'lessons learned' from case studies, as well addressing individual concerns. Terrific for people who have “been doing ESA for 'decades' but want to stay up to date.
