How to apply
Forest Service Candidates
A call for nominations goes out from the National office in spring through each Region and Research Stations & Areas. Supervisors can forward nominations to the Regional Coordinator, following the Region's nomination process (Most Regions use AgLearn). Research Stations & Areas can self register in AgLearn or forward nominations to the National CE-WFW Program Leader.
SF-182 are completed in AgLearn. Most vendors accept credit cards.
Once confirmed, participants are
obligated to pay the tuition, fixed costs or find a substitute. Confirmation will occur in October via letter from the Washington and Regional Offices. It also arrives via AgLearn. This applies whether
you register through your Regional Coordinator or through AgLearn.
If a confirmed participant needs to withdraw, he/she must immediately contact his/her Regional or National Coordinator for assistance in finding a substitute. Trying to withdraw from a workshop with only a few weeks notice will be difficult and is NOT recommended. If a substitute is not found then tuition will still have to be paid (a few rare exceptions are made but this is at the vendor's discretion). Every effort will be made to assist participants with their individual needs. Expect to be actively involved in finding a substitute.
Self Funded: If you are self funded you can register directly
through AgLearn. Visit our 'Registering
In AgLearn' page for detailed instructions.
REGISTRATION & SF182 HEADS UP: Sorry to say, there are 2 steps in AgLearn you must do.
Step 1: Registering for your training. Follow the "Registering in AgLearn" information.
Step 2: Complete your SF182 in AgLearn. You can reverse the order if you want. But doing one step does NOT automatically trigger the other item in AgLearn.
AgLearn is a great database (a.k.a. Learning Management System/LMS) - but it isn't that great yet. All the training listed in our CE program have SF182 content information. Look for it at each course's webpage. Call the CE WFW National Program Leader (switt01"at"fs.fed.us) for help. Once you get that done you continue with getting lodging, plane reservations, etc. Kudos to you for being willing to work so hard to get training.
"Everyone Else" Candidates
Candidates from other agencies, States, Tribes, private industry,
International countries or the public interested in enrolling
can apply to the National CE-WFW Program Leader or directly
to the vendor of each workshop. You can apply at anytime.
Letters &
Forms
The nomination letters and registration form are provided below. If you want to be on our annual mailing list (email or postal) please let us know.
Forest Service employees, note that some Regions have application forms that vary from the national registration form. Other Regions simply use the national registration form or no form at all - expecting you to register directly in AgLearn. Please fill out an appropriate form and send it to your Regional CE Coordinator with a "cc" to the Natonal Program Leader. Research Station Areas contact the National WFW-CE Program Leader or self register.
Individuals not employed by the Forest Service should contact the National WFW-CE Program Leader or use the "Fed-State-Tribe-Private"
form. Fill out the form and send it to the National Program Leader,
as indicated on the form.
Two form options are provided. One is "html" - meaning it is formatted as a web page. This format allows you to "preview & print" - click "print screen" on your browser and get a hard copy. The other option is a downloadable "txt" format, allowing "editing & emailing". Once downloaded, you can edit it electronically in your favorite word processing software, and submit via email as an attachment.
If you can't find what you need, please contact either the National WFW-CE Program Leader or your Regional Coordinator. If you are not administratively located with a USFS Region, please contact the National WFW-CE program leader.

Tuition
Tuition does not cover lodging, meals or transportation (there are occasional exceptions). Limited tuition dollars are available through a few Regional offices during the nomination process for Forest Service personnel. Responsibility for payment of all costs (e.g., tuition and travel) rests solely with the nominating unit, unless regional office tuition funding is obtained. It is strongly recommended that when you are developing your budget for "out years" (2013, 2014, etc.) be sure to include funding for training. Individuals who qualify and have planned training dollars are given priority ranking for workshop slots.
Once confirmed, participants are
obligated to pay the tuition, fixed costs or find a substitute.
Tribal Scholarships
The following workshops in the USFS Continuing Education Program

scholarship for natural resource professionals working
for Tribal Organizations (Councils, Bands, Tribes, Rancherias,
